Gone are the days when traffic signals simply assigned right-of-way using green, amber and red signals. The traffic signals of today are sophisticated and complex. They are part of a network of tools to improve the flow of traffic, influence the way people travel and improve safety and accessibility.

In this one-day workshop, we will hear about exciting projects and technology applications where new tools are being used to improve the way traffic signals operate and expand the role of the signalized intersection. Topics for discussion may include:

·         transit signal priority,

·         red light cameras,

·         emergency vehicle detection,

·         innovative signal displays, and

·         signal system development.
