What topics will the OTC MLEO Training cover?

This 2 day in-person course with pre-study online module will cover the following topics:

Legislative Authority (pre-study online)
This module will provide a detailed look at the legislation that governs the authority and processes involved in the enforcement of parking by-laws. This legislation will include the Provincial Offences Act, the Criminal Code and the Charter of Rights. This module will provide an overview of what occurs in the processing of a parking ticket from the moment it is served on the windshield of a vehicle to when it is paid by the vehicle owner.

Courtroom Procedures and Decorum
This module will provide a detailed look at how officers should prepare for court and how to conduct themselves when giving evidence in court. It will also include an overview of the legislation that governs court proceedings (ie. The Provincial Offences Act, rules of disclosure, etc.).

Officer Safety
This module will cover the key skills an officer needs to possess when dealing with difficult or irate people. It will focus on how to avoid difficult confrontations, de-escalate situations that are becoming hostile and, finally, how to remove himself/herself from situations where the imminent threat of physical harm exists.
